Tortoise Live at Bimbo's 365 Club on 1996-05-25

6 hours 40 min ago
AUD > DAT
This is one of my favorite Tortoise shows in my collection. It is from the tour supporting "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" and even has an early version of "The Equator" from "TNT." This version is even better than the album version, IMHO. Back when I got this show, I was trading with DAT-Heads who didn't have CD burners, so my copy is XLII from the DAT. I hope that someone will rip this show if they have the original DAT! But, here is my version. Originally, This show originally clocked in around 81 Minutes, so I edited the WAV's so that it would fit on an 80-minute CD. I took the liberty of shortening up the "looped" recording after "Cornpone Brunch" (the yelling voice backwards and forwards) as well as starting a fade early on "Grazing In The Grass" while Tortoise was breaking it down at the end. In my opinion it does not detract from the show. The covers of "Grazing in the Grass" by Hugh Masekela and "Theme De Yoyo" by the Chicago Art Ensemble make this show really fun. For this tour the band lineup is Bitney, Herndon, McCombs, McEntire and Dave Pajo. The song "Wait" was a song written by longtime friend and future Tortoise guitarist Jeff Parker for Tortoise, interestingly. Parker would join the band in 1997 expanding the band to a six-piece until Pajo departs the following year. 01. Gamera 02. A Survey 03. The Equator 04. Glass Museum 05. Wait 06. Tin Cans & Twine 07. The Taut and Tame 08. Djed pt. 2 09. Theme De Yoyo 10. Cornpone Brunch Encore: 11. Spiderwebbed 12. Grazing in the Grass
